Most governments around the world have temporarily closed educational institutions in an attempt to contain the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, having a devastating impact on global education - particularly for more vulnerable and disadvantaged communities. According to the latest figures released by UNESCO, some 1.3 billion learners around the world were not able to attend school or university as of March 23, 2020.
